In my last post I mentioned a few times about something called 'Warm Showers'. This has been a really life saver on my journey so far and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is planning a biking trip.
What is Warm Showers?
The 'Warm Showers' Community is a free worldwide hospitality exchange for touring cyclists. People who are willing to host touring cyclists sign up and provide their contact information, and may occasionally have someone stay with them and share great stories and a drink. All members agree to host others either now or in the future, but for some members hosting may be in years or even decades in the future.
It works by the cyclist contacting a prospective host via email or phone to see if they are available; the host is not obligated to accept. At minimum, the host will provide some type of sleeping accommodation, which could range from a spare bedroom to a place to pitch a tent in the garden. Some hosts might provide entertainment and show you around. Other hosts may offer less.
Either way, regardless of the services a host provides they are always available at no charge. Asking guests to pay for the evening is against 'Warm Showers' rules.
'Warm Showers' is only for touring cyclists, which means that no matter who you stay with, you always have a common shared interest. The hosts you stay with through Warm Showers often have wonderful bike touring stories of their own to share andthey also understand the varies factors about travelling by bicycle, like the fact that arrival times can be uncertain, or just how much a cyclist can eat!
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for future updates!
